| While traveling to unfamiliar destinations, many things can happen. Rape, robbery, and sometimes even murder... Everyday, many tourist and business travelers fall victim to many of these unbelievable activities. However, travelers can avoid or at least defend against all of this with the safety tips listed below: One: Stay with your luggage at all times in the airport. If you absolutely must put it down, have at least one foot sternly on the bag. Two: You never want to list your home address on the bag. Also, never list your hotel number or address on the bag. If you’re on business, then you should use your companies address. If you’re on a trip to a friends place, list their address -- don’t forget to ask them if this is ok. Three: Keep all your important documents in a safe and reachable place. However, your passport, id, and drivers license should be photocopied. If you need the original, make sure to keep them close, but completely secured and in easy access for yourself at all times. Four: Have a flashlight everywhere. They’re different sizes and shapes that will accommodate you if you feel “weird” always lugging one around. You never know when you’ll be in the dark and unsafe area. Five: Leave your jewelry at home! Don’t walk around looking like an aristocrat. You’ll just bringing yourself into view for thieves and robbers. Leave all jewelry at home and look middle class if not poor. Don’t trap yourself. Six: Keep your credit cards to a minimum. One or two credit cards should do the trick. Debit or even “money” cards are better. Cards that allow you to set a certain amount on them are best. Cards that are locked by pin are also suggested. Seven: Sometimes you may be “detained”. Always ask for ID and ask for their managers or superiors. Always keep your emotions in check. Do not make yourself look weak and vulnerable . Always know your surroundings and keep everything in check. These tips will help you have a safer more enjoyable trip. |
