The sites and sounds of a place are wonderful to sit back and take in a beautiful day. Historic towns, beaches and coastal areas, mountains and forestry are enough to make one want to run away to a dreamland and never come back. Maryland is diverse in such a way that it has to offer the pleasantries of lush with forests filled with pines, oaks and wildflowers, sand dunes and low marshlands with exquisite wild life habitats and rolling hills with breathtaking scenery for miles and miles. Although Maryland is relatively small in size compared to some of the states we have in the US, Maryland is place filled with history and blossoming with growth. Such as the naming of the counties and the state altogether; Montgomery County was names after, General Richard Montgomery who was the 1st general to die fighting for American Independence on December 31, 1775. The state of Maryland got its' name from King Charles' wife, Henrietta Maria. What's interesting is that there were a many meaningful war that come through Maryland, one of which was a border war between Pennsylvania and Maryland. The Cresaps War began in 1730's, but then in 1976 was resolved with the Maxon-Dixon line which would serve as a permanent bounty between the 2 colonies. And if it weren't for Francis Scott Key, we wouldn't have our beloved Star Spangled Banner, which he wrote during WW2 in 1812. Maryland was the 7th state to ratify the United States constitution. It's easy to understand why one would enjoy seeing Maryland just to be in a place which was once filled with such great history. But if that wasn't a good enough reason to enjoy the historical state, than the thriving towns might be enough to make one take a step back and wonder why they didn't take the time to enjoy it before. You don't have to just be passing through or visiting to enjoy this state, residents often too busy don't have the time to appreciate the small state; which has often been said is comparable in size to Belgium. Maryland is one of the states that is located in the Mid Atlantic region of the US, bordering; Virginia, West Virginia, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania and Delaware. It's because of the states surrounding Maryland that it's able to boast a very wide array of terrain and landscapes. Counties throughout Maryland are filled with either fantastic views of the Atlantic Coast or spectacular views of mountain landscapes. Maryland has been known to be called, "America in miniature" because of the vast changes in scenery. But because of the very different scenery changes this allows for some very weird weather at times. Believe it or not, the Wisp… is a ski area… which gets enough snow each winter to give skiers the ultimate adventure thrill ride. The highest point in Maryland is the Crest on Backbone Mountain which is located in the southeast corner of Garrett County. And then there is the coastal areas which are vulnerable to hurricanes and the occasional tornado. As you can see, maybe the saying is right, Maryland is "America in miniature." Maryland boasts some of the most amazing and beautiful wildlife, plant life and animal life out of most of the eastern US. Their state flower is the Black-eyed Susan which grows in an overabundance throughout the entire state. The Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly is famous throughout the state and eastern US and can be seen in the many lush forests throughout. Perhaps one of the most popular of the states wildlife would be the state bird. The Baltimore oriole which is also the mascot for the famous Baltimore oriole baseball team. And then there's the Diamondback Terrapin turtle which was adopted by the University of Maryland as their mascot. But aside from that Maryland is known for its population of rare wild horses which can be found on Assateague Island. And also there is the purebred Chesapeake Bay retriever which is famous among dog show championships and animal lovers. But there is also a many wildlife and animal abundance that many people outside of the state don't know too much about. Chesapeake Bay alone provides a rich life Blue crabs, rockfish and seabirds all which can be seen on a visit to the bay. The plan life beholds lustrous Crape Myrtles, Italian Cypress and even Palm Trees, yes, Palm Trees! Maryland is also known to house some of the more popular universities and associates such as; Johns Hopkins University, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the University System of Maryland, the FDA, Med Immune and the NIH, just to name a few. The famous Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay are the states most rich waterways and helps supply water through to many neighboring states. The cities of Washington D.C., College Park, Chesapeake City, Frederick, Hagerstown, Ocean City and Silver Spring is a short list of cities that help draw tourists from all over the world. These cities are clothed in magnificence and splendid arrays of structures and landscape. Enjoying Maryland might be a large task depending on how one looks at it, because although it's a small state, what is has to offer is large and bountiful. The towns are warm and the people are friendly. They revel in the history their state has to offer and the stories that come with it.
